Nose Cone Trim Patterns
With the advent of ever increasing types of Saildrives available on the market plus changes made by various manufacturers - it is critical to ensuring the correct Nose Cone is supplied with each Saildrive unit to ensure that it both fairs nicely to the zinc presenting a streamlined shape and at the same time leaves sufficient space between the zinc and the Nose Cone of the propeller to both prevent the ingress of foreign objects.
It must also ensure clearance for both the manufacturers supplied zinc and OEM third party zincs that are often fitted subsequently to ensure the rotating Nose Cone does not touch the zinc.
Kiwiprop Saildrive units are all initially manufactured with the front face of the Nose Cone extending 7.00 mm forward of the metal boss which takes the forward thrust of the unit. This is the largest extension of any type and fits a Volvo unit directly - so all other units can be prepared by machining down from a Volvo type cone.
The shape of the front face of the Nose Cone is thus machined specific to the Saildrive as follows:
BETA SP60 ( ex Twin Disc ):
Remove 4.00 mm off front face of a standard Volvo type
CRAFTSMAN SD10 ( ex ZF ):
Remove 4.00 mm off front face of a standard Volvo type
LOMBARDINI SD & SD M:
Remove 7.00 mm from the outer section leaving a collar of Ø = 3.000" extending forward. Will then be the same as per Yanmar SD20 but with the outside Ø also reduced to 3.500" to match the smaller gear case
NANNI SP60 ( ex Twin Disc ):
Remove 4.00 mm off front face of a standard Volvo type
SONIC II from SILLETTE:
Remove 4.00 mm off front face of standard Volvo type.
Increase recess internal Ø to 83.00 mm to clear zinc
TWIN DISC SP60:
Remove 4.00 mm off front face of a standard Volvo type
VOLVO:
Fitted as per machined ex Swages without modification. Front face extends 7.00 mm forward of the front face of the stainless steel cast boss.
YANMAR SD20/25/30/31/40/50: NB: EXCLUDES NEW SD 60
Remove 7.00 mm aft from the outer section only leaving a collar of Ø = 3.000" extending forward.
NB: We would not expect a larger and heavier K4 unit to be fitted to SD20 or SD25 Saildrive units that have dog type clutches with near instant engagement. K4 units are not suited to these units that expect maximum power of less than 30 hp.
YANMAR SD60 ( ex ZF) :
