Received 12 th April 2024 - Formosa 53' with Perkins  4.236 on 2.00:1 with 18.50" x 24º K3 unit.

Hello John,
just to let you know, the propeller fitted perfectly, we fixed it under water without any issues, and quick..
We just did not manage to make an underwater Video from that, since our Go Pro went the other way.

It has not seen much workload yet, since we have some more issues to clear before heading out to sea,
but the trials went flawlessly.
Impressive, in comparison with other folding props or similar, is the quick response from forward to astern
as well!

I am looking forward to a long and satisfactory relationship with your prop without malfunctions.

Received 28 th Nov 2023 - Fast 42' Farr Sloop that upgraded to XV foil blades. Yanmar  4JH3 with 18.50" x 24º K3 unit.

Yes I fitted them in Fiji before the passage home. Had a good range of conditions with boat speeds as high as 15.6 knots without rotation. Noticed rotation once on a day-sail since then but not convinced I properly took it out of gear before shutting down. Also need to check spring is still at its higher tension setting. Will monitor over summer.

Received 6 th Jan 2023 - Kiwiprops on catamaran with 2 x D1-30's on 130 S - K3 16.50" x 21º units

Good morning from Puerto Rico after a 500 mile sail from Granada. We had a fast but rough sail with winds from 14–20 knots most of the time, mainsail was on the second reef the whole trip and the headsail maybe halfway due to going too fast for the conditions, boat speed was 6–10 knots, best thing I know for sure is there was no vibration at all.

Kind of hard to compare the speed with the old props without the same conditions but if I really notice something I will let you know.

Received 6 th Dec 2022 - Kiwiprop # 6212 Universal 35 hp @ 3,000 on 1.79:1 - 1.88:1 - Modified blades

Hi John, after all of your help I thought I had better send you an email and let you know what the final outcome was.

The cutting down of the blades to 15.5” went very well. I designed a template in CorelDraw, printed it and marked out the three blades. It is surprisingly tough material to work with, which of course is a good thing. I started with a jigsaw to remove the excess, but the blade was blunt by the time had finished the first blade. I then resorted to the hacksaw that you recommended and used a belt sander to smooth out the profile.

I set the pitch to 22 degrees. But it turned out to be to much so I took half a turn (1.5 degrees) of each of the screws. And I think that is about perfect as it seems to replicated the original prop in terms of Rpm and SOG. The shorter blades are noticeably less aggressive in reverse and that has solved the issue I had of getting the gearbox out of reverse.

Which gets us to good part, I am delighted with the performance gains under sail. I did the bottom job at the same time and that always makes a noticeable difference, but taking that into account, I estimate that I am consistently getting an extra 0.5 - 0.75 of knot. Which on a 36’ yacht is considerable.

It certainly turned out to be challenging project but in the final wash up well worth the effort. Thanks again for all of your help John.

Received November 2022 Tanzar 31 with Yanmar 13 hp from Owner purchasing a second Kiwiprop for his new vessel.

Good morning John
I have an other sailboat with a kiwi prop……..invoice 8216……back in 2008…….I can give you a very good water feedback
In 2018 I bought a 31 foot sailboat ( TANZER 31……..Quebec build in 1985 ) that had a kiwi prop on
I improve that sailboat for a long trip to the BAHAMAS from Montreal going by the INTRA COASTAL WATERWAY…….so it’s going to be mostly a motor ride
Aboard I have a 1985 YANMAR 13 hp 2 cylinder that runs beautifully……….my boat weighs 10,000 pounds and by today standard I should have a 19 hp
We left in August 2019 my wife and I arrived in Miami 5 months later
We enjoyed the ride and visited many places along the way……..we also had to replace the transmission so we were on the hard for a month
The kiwi prop performed very nicely and push the sailboat in all sort of weather and tide currents with authority.
Reverse is very powerful, so powerful that I do it 10 seconds at a time
So in January 2020 we crossed the Gulf Stream and spent the winter in the BAHAMAS
I take care of the prop by greasing it before every launch and cleaning the barnacles every week
I appreciate the lightweight of the prop for small engine like I have
In January we are flying back to the BAHAMAS for our third winter season there

Hope you enjoy my review !
Take care and please keep making those great prop for ever ! Robin

Received October 27th 2022 - Beneteau Oceanis 43 with Yanmar 4JH5 rateed 54 hp @ 3,000 on 2.36:1 = 18.50" x 25º

Hey John,

I installed a kiwi prop 2 months ago on my Beneteau Oceanis 43.

Just wanted to let you know that I am very happy with its performance. Coming from a fixed prop it has made a huge difference to our sailing ability. We can sail about kt faster and in about 3 knots lighter wind that we could previously. Might not sound like much, but it is a game changer.

I think it has more prop walk but that’s the least of my worries. It also performs well under motor at low revs which I am happy with.

I do however get a vibration when surfing waves at >9 kt. I am not sure though if this is coming from the rudder or prop. But it is nothing compared to the vibration that used to come off the fixed prop.

I’m sure we will speak again. Many thanks, J

Received Feb 8th 2022 Ganley Sloop Nanni 4.38 on 2.45:1 K3 18.50" x 22

Hi John,
I hope you’re doing well. Your Kiwiprop was spot on on our boat - the guys, who checked the engine from Nanni were impressed how they were perfect suited the engine. They said usually that’s what they fail the warranty for.

But in the meantime, we moved on and sold our monohull, house etc. and left the country. We’re now settling in to Mexico. I already found a boat, that I probably buy. It’s a 40ft Admiral sailing catamaran. It has two double bladed props, but they’re non folding. The engines are 2 x Yanmar 29hp 3YM30 diesel engines coupled to saildrives. The boat is 8200kg (empty).

Please let me know if you need any further information. What props do you recommend? How much would they be? As you said, you deliver them around the world, it wouldn’t be a problem to send them to Mexico. All the best

Received 29 Jan 2022 - Davidson with Volvo 2030 @ 3,600 on 120 S with K3 16.50" x 22º

Hi,

I purchased a prop from you in late November last year (Inv 21200 ) - you asked for feed back.
Overall I am very happy - the performance under sail is greatly improved and we often reach hull speed - and greater speed at low winds.
The pitch in forward drive is I think too great as the motor can only reach 3000 revs and tends to smoke under high power (the fixed prop readily achieved 3500++ revs. )
There is quite a lot of prop noise at less than 1800 revs - we tend to motor at 2000 to get past that and suspect the hydrodynamics of the blades is the cause.
Going astern is good.
Thank you for this prop as made sailing more enjoyable for me.
Regards - RC

Hi John,

Since I installed your Kiwiprop 2.5 years ago on my port side It performed to my full satisfaction.
I have not been out of the water and I see no wear or corrosion. I am very happy , thank you.
Now my other Volvo 3 bladed prop on starboard side is worn out and is getting its blades jammed .
I need another K3 17” Kiwi prop.
From your invoice # 19168 sept 5th 2019 you can see all details of my boat Its a 2001 CATANA 431 catamaran.

Starboard and port side have identical engines and gearboxes.
I am in murky water and from what I could see the starboard engine is also turning anticlockwise. But I am not 100% sure.

Question1 : is this normal on cruising cats to have both engines turning anticlockwise?
Question 2 : do I need any other spare parts, I already have one spare blade.
Question 3 : I have a local diver-sailor here who is willing to install it for me underwater.
He is also a happy owner of a 5 year old Kiwiprop. Is there anything special to look out for in underwater instalation?

Please send me a bill so I can pay with paypal. Shipping is also with DHL .

John,
I fitted the props and back in water last Thursday.
Noticed the difference straight away. After launching I had to negotiate between several boats waiting to use the slipway. Much more responsive than before.
Went to Mayor for the weekend. NW blowing so motored out. Cut 20 mins off time for 20 nm.

Slight wind today so had to motor back. Before I motored at 2700 rpm at 6 to 7kts.
Now motor at over 8 kts at 2400 rpm.
I am a happy chappy. Thanks.
Have a merry Christmas and a happy New Year.
Kind regards,

Hi John,

I see that I have not properly thanked you for your service with our new propellor blades. We had the blades fitted by Seapower – you will remember I called to ascertain whether to use the old o-rings or not.
The blades fitted well, and obviously they are set perfectly for our motor and yacht. We have gained speed of about 0.3 knots at 2,000 rpm, and the engine still revs through to it max of approx. 3100 rpm. We guess that the old blades must have had their pitch adjusted slightly incorrectly since the time they were first fitted.
Thanks for the excellent service at a busy time for you.

Cheers,

Received on 9th March 2020 - Beta 20 on 2.61:1 2.13:1 with 14.50" x 22º OGV Blade set ...

John,

Update on the new Kiwi prop blades and tri-rollers you supplied for our yacht last October.

I normally got about 1.5 litres per hour engine time out of the old blades etc.

Have just returned from Bay of Island where we spent 3 weeks plus. The engine appears to have returned 1.3 litres per hour, and maybe I'm imagining it but it seems to run a bit more more 'sweetly' and deliver a bit more speed more readily if I want it...

So I'm very pleased.

Received on 22 Nov 2019 – A Farr 1020 Owner from Australia

Hi,

I have just finished servicing my 3 blade kiwiprop on my annual pull out. I bought it 12 years ago to replace a 2 blade volvo feathering prop on my Farr 1020.
I continue to be impressed. I repowered my boat a little time ago from the original Volvo 2002 to a D1-30, and transferred the prop. The ability to fine tune the pitch meant I could get the maximum out of the new engine.
After 12 years of use the prop shows very little wear. This year the rollers for realigning the blades in reverse all had stiffened. So there was a little chaffing on the blades. I had used a different antifoul last year. Perhaps this was the cause? Anyway, I freed them up, cleaned and greased according to the manual, and am about to return it to the water for another year of service.

Thanks for your excellent, innovative product. I show everyone I can how it works. It deserves far more recognition than it gets.
I’ll write another testimonial in 12 years if I’m still alive, because I’m sure the prop will be.

Cheers, Chris You may use this testimonial as you see fit.

Hi John,

I must have understood the instructions for the prop fitting cause it didn't fall off when we launched and motorsailed home in 25 knots today.
First impressions are it has exceeded expectations and our wee boat has never gone so quick as it was doing today. I made the mistake of too much power in reverse and stalled the cold engine at a tricky time backing off the slip way with big wind with tide. No harm done except to my pride .
We were using 1/3 less power at 1800 rpm giving 6.5 knots and the reversing
and stopping power at tick over is pretty impressive.
What a great investment.

Many thanks,

Hi John,
It’s been 3 months since I fitted your Kiwiprops to replace my Gori props. Outcome is:-
- Absolutely no sign of electrolysis on either prop. As this was THE reason for ditching the new Gori props I consider the switch a 100% success. Other points of minor interest...
- Kiwi props (at supplied pitch) rev higher than Gori 2 blade folders so chew a bit more fuel with a lower top speed (but as I rarely motor I couldn’t be bothered playing with this).
- Kiwi props have better stopping power in reverse. Not that Gori props were bad but yours are excellent.
- Kiwi prop feathers more readily than Gori prop folds. If going is slow I had to occasionally throw Goris into reverse to fold them completely (then neutral could be reselected) but Kiwi props need no such ‘nudge’.
Thanks again for a great product,

Greg. Sent from my iPad
